Macdonald Forest Hills Resort is a 4-star hotel set in the beautiful surroundings of Aberfoyle, with a fitness centre, satellite TV and private bathrooms in all rooms. There's a variety of activities in the area, from water sports to Go Ape, plus convenient access to nearby shops and the town. The communal facilities are top-notch, with stunning views, a gym, sauna, pool, and football pitch. However, the apartments in the hotel have seen better days and need a serious renovation, with old carpets, sticky leather sofas, cobwebs, and non-working appliances. Fortunately, the new General Manager is willing to offer refunds due to the condition of the apartments. With a renovation, Macdonald Forest Hills could be the ideal place to stay in Scotland.

    Aberfoyle - Central Scotland
Photo of Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Spa 9 miles from Drymen

This 4-star hotel is located on the shores of Loch Ard, just 6 miles from the foot of Ben Lomond. It offers a spa, an activity centre and a select menu of wines and whiskies. Our room was big, clean and had a partial view of the loch. All basic amenities were provided and the beautiful gardens, surrounding nature and plenty of places to walk make it a perfect getaway. The food was delicious, although a bit pricey, and the staff were professional and attentive. Breakfast had plenty of continental and cooked options. A shame that alcohol was not served and coffee was only available after 2pm, but overall a great stay!

    Stirling - Central Scotland
Photo of Stirling Highland Hotel- Part of the Cairn Collection 21 miles from Drymen

The Highland Hotel is an iconic 1854 building located less than 10 minutes from Stirling's historic castle. With an AA Rosette-awarded restaurant and free parking, it's the perfect hotel for a getaway. Our experience was a positive one; the reception and housekeeping staff were very accommodating and responsive to our requests. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely view. Breakfast was excellent, and the free use of the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were a great added bonus. Unfortunately, our room had some issues such as water ingress on the ceiling, a broken jacuzzi and mouldy shower curtain. Despite this, we would happily stay again when visiting Stirling.

  • Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa

    Falkirk - Central Scotland
Photo of Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa 30 miles from Drymen

Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa is a traditional Scottish manor house, situated on the outskirts of Falkirk and Grangemouth and easily accessible from Junction 5 of the M9 motorway. With landscaped gardens and a spa, the hotel is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The restaurant offers a range of dishes, including steaks, but some customers have been disappointed with the size and quality of the steaks. The bar area offers a comfortable environment to enjoy a meal and a drink, but the service can be slow. The bedrooms are in need of a modern update, but they are clean and comfortable. The pool and bar area are lovely, but during the summer months, visitors may wish to bring extra fans as the windows don’t open very far and the hotel doesn’t provide fans. The hotel is near an oil refinery, so be aware of the occasional whiff of it. All in all, Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa is a great place to stay for a peaceful break.
