Down Hall is a stunning 4-star country-house hotel set in a 110-acre estate on the Hertfordshire/Essex border. It features elegant rooms with garden views, tennis courts, a gym with a wide range of innovative exercise equipment, and a cocktail bar. Although the property is beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful, it has some shortcomings; the bar was understaffed, there was a lack of room service, robes and slippers were not provided, and the breakfast was below average. Upgrade to an executive room and you may find the facilities lacking, with only four hangers in the wardrobe, an uncomfortable bed and a bath with sink taps. Despite the breathtaking grounds, we won't be returning due to the lack of services and quality of the accommodation.

Unfortunately, the hotel rooms are outdated and dirty, with stains on bathroom doors, inconsistent hot water and poor signal. The staff were unhelpful and rude and even called guests liars when they complained. Others reported finding bugs in their beds. While the location is alluring, there are many better options in the area to choose from. Avoid this one.
