St John's Lodge is an award-winning guest house situated between Windermere village and the Lake at Bowness Bay. With Windermere village centre, Bowness, the Lake, restaurants and cafes all within walking distance, it's the perfect base camp for exploring the area. Rich and Ada, the owners, are incredibly welcoming and attentive to all guests. The beds and guest area are furnished to a high standard, while the breakfast room offers an abundance of choices, with 20 different options, including vegetarian and vegan. There's also an honesty bar and guest lounge with TV. Rich is very knowledgeable of the local area and goes the extra mile to ensure his guests are comfortable. My wife and I had a wonderful experience here and we will definitely return! David & Joanne

Glenville House is an exquisite 4-star guesthouse built in 1888 using Lakeland stone, offering luxurious en-suite rooms with wide-screen TVs, iPod docks and free Wi-Fi. Located halfway between Windermere centre and Bowness centre, the guesthouse offers free parking and a warm welcome to adults only, no pets allowed. Our room had a pleasant view of wild woods, a comfortable bed and cotton sheets. Breakfast was excellent with many customisable options and mini-fridge with chilled water and milk. Tea, coffee, biscuits and sweets were freely available. An ideal location for a restful stay in the south lakes, we would definitely recommend and come back again!

With a covered car port and free Wi-Fi, it is ideal for families or group of 6 people with a small dog. It is well equipped with a dog bed and bowls, and for added bonus, you get access to a health club. The location is perfect with shops, pubs and cafes nearby, as well as a park across the road, and plenty of walks to take with your pet. John, the host, is very helpful and attentive. Beech Hill Hotel & Spa

The Beech Hill Hotel is a luxurious retreat set in beautiful landscaped gardens. Offering an AA Rosette restaurant, a Spa centre with an indoor heated swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room and outdoor spa pool, and rooms with spa baths, four-poster beds or garden terraces, the hotel provides the perfect setting for a restful getaway. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience when the Duty Manager evicted us from the hotel after a panic attack caused by being locked out of the spa area. Additionally, the continental breakfast was limited and the pillows and mattress were uncomfortable. However, the second room we were moved to was much nicer and the staff were helpful in switching off the radiator. WiFi was poor, and the bed linen was overhanging and rough.
